This is an image I made by exporting some letters from 3ds max into photoshop as .tif files. i then separated the faces from the sides and added some shading, color and patterns... tada!

The fuzzy drop shadow makes a world of difference... the tiny ring around the edges of the polys are a little "hmmm" but not too distracting... if that was an accident, it might have been due to the anti-aliasing checkbox on the marque tool.
